CDA Architects
The following
projects were completed by Duplanty Huffaker Associates, Architects
under Mr. Huffaker's direction.
Los Angeles International Airport
The firm was contracted by the LAX Department of Airports to analyze
the impact of the 747 on the airport facilities and make recommendations
on how to meet the demands. Upon completion of the study, the firm was
contracted by Pan American and TWA to redesign their existing passenger,
ticketing, and baggage facilities to accommodate the new aircraft. The
firm had a construction management contract to coordinate all technical
consultants and contractors working on the facilities to achieve a fast
track opening at the arrival of the aircraft. The terminals were expanded
from 10 passenger gates to 13 gates with business as usual during the
construction phase. All work was completed on time and on budget.
Upon completion of the TWA and Pan American facilities the firm was
contracted by Western Airlines and Mexicana Airlines to design and construction
manage new passenger facilities and install new international customs
facilities within their terminal. The firm also did extensive design
work for TWA in coordinating the new computer ticketing and passenger
reservations systems throughout the Southern California region.
Recreation and Resort Facilities
In 1970 the firm was contracted to redesign a condominium resort facility
in Mammoth Lakes, that had severe water damage from ice infiltration.
After redesigning the roof system the firm was contracted to design
a new 70-unit condominium resort for the same client. Upon completion
and sell out of the new facility the firm was contracted to design a
170-unit condominium resort, in mammoth adjacent to the lower ski facilities.
The facilities were completed and sold in record time.
During this period the firm was contracted to design a new resort hotel
in Telluride. Due to the short construction period the developer had
originally sustained substantial damage to his first construction efforts
as the building was left partially finished over the heavy winter season
and suffered major water and structural damage. The Architectural firm
designed a 45 unit hotel that was constructed in modules, offsite and
delivered finished in the spring. The building was finished in record
time. The Architectural firm also assisted in the design of some of
the ski mountain facilities as a design consultant.
In 1974 the firm was contracted to design and supervise the construction
of a 120-unit resort condominium in Lake Havasu, California. The site
was adjacent to the newly relocated London Bridge and was one of the
first construct projects in that area.
Condominium Facilities
The Architectural firm was a pioneer in the design and development of
condominiums. Mr. Huffaker was a consultant to Barclay Hollander Cursey
Development a development firm that constructed the first condominiums
in California. In the period from 1971 until 1976 the firm participated
in the condominium conversion of numerous apartment projects in Southern
Calif. The firm was a major participant in development seminars at UCLA
training developers and contractors in the proper methods and procedures
for condominium conversions.
Duplanty Huffaker Associates, Architect have design numerous condominium
projects, from exclusive Beverly Hills and Beach Front condominiums
to empty nester units and entry level projects. The firm was always
on the cutting edge of the profession, with new designs and site plans
that facilitated the ownership needs of the individual buyer as well
as integrating the project into the existing cityscape. Many of the
projects included construction and marketing management contracts as
well as architectural services.
Commercial and Renovation Projects
The Architectural firm remodeled several older shopping centers for
commercial clients to update the designs and site plans for new tenants
and appearances. The firm remodeled and restored numerous buildings
in Westwood Village, California, adjacent to UCLA in the late 1970’s.
The City of Los Angeles awarded the firm an outstanding design award
for the work.
